31 Faces of Fear: Gangrel
For the month of October, we are going to run through some of our favorite wrestlers that inspire fear in their competitors and fans alike.
From what I can tell, the whole character of Gangrel was derived from the idea of his entrance. They wanted someone to rise from a pit of fire and a vampire made the most sense. For good measure he would drink from a goblet of blood and spit it out on the crowd for good measure.
Gangrel, or the guy that plays Gangrel, was great at the theatricality of the gimmick. As preposterous as it sounds, a vampire or someone that lived the gothic lifestyle like that seemed right at home with all the crazy characters of the Attitude Era. As a wrestler, he was fine.
As a wrestler, Gangrel was OK, at best. He really raised his profile when he brought along The Brood, Edge and Christian. They were excellent wrestlers and future Hall of Famers.
You can still find Gangrel spitting blood on the audience. Now instead of arenas, he’s in Bingo halls.
